Call for presentations- “The art and design of XR” Symposium- [Deadline: 31/08/2022- Symposium 23-24/9/2022]
“On behalf of the Scientific/Organizing Committee, we are delighted to invite you to participate in the ERASMUS XR Multiplier Event, a Symposium titled: “The art and design of XR” which will take place on September 23rd-24th, at the National Gallery (auditorium “Onassis Foundation”), in Athens, Greece.
The main goal of the event is to encourage discussions between artists, academics, researchers, and professionals from multiple disciplines who will share their knowledge and experiences, and showcase their projects. The symposium will focus on a broad spectrum of themes relating to eXtended Reality (XR) technologies, ranging from artistic practices, social aspects and cultural perspectives to the management of distribution channels, financing and business models. The event is organized by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in collaboration with Onassis Stegi Cultural Center.”
About the Event
The ERASMUS XR Multiplier Event is part of the educational activities in the context of the “ERASMUS XR:Experience and immersive technologies – from creative practice to educational theory” project. The project is implemented in the framework of the Erasmus + Programme and Strategic Partnership for Digital Education Readiness action. The participating institutions are: Jagiellonian University (Coordinator, Poland), University of Malta (Malta), Lodz Film School (Poland) and the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece).
The event’s objective is to assist in the knowledge dissemination, forming bridges between the participants. It addresses practitioners, of any expertise level, involved with immersive media and technologies, namely academics, scientists and researchers, artists and digital creators, professionals, and companies active in the XR market, as well as cultural and media producers and managers. In addition, as part of the aforementioned project, it aspires to function as an informative and educational tool for students, and anyone interested in being introduced to the world of immersive media or expanding their knowledge in the relevant fields.
The Symposium will consist of presentations on the thematic areas listed below which will last 15-20 mins, a series of panels on the main topics and themes as well as invited keynote presentations. The organizing committee aims at compiling a Symposium Abstract Proceedings after the completion of the event that will document the presentations.

The ERASMUS XR Multiplier Event offers the opportunity to present and discuss recent research / achievements / artworks on the following fields:
- XR as a creative medium – State of the art and design of XR
- Cinematic Virtual Reality – Immersive Cinematography
- XR Production and Management
- Social Interaction in Virtual Environments – Social and Cultural Perspectives of the Multiuser Virtual Environments
- Distribution & business aspects of XR – Metaverse and the Blockchain
- XR business models – XR financing schemes
- Immersing the audience in the XR experience and affording the audience participation
- Prosocial/antisocial effects of immersive media
- Flexible approach to management of immersive media production
- The future of immersive entertainment
- Legal regulations and their reinterpretations on the ground of XR technologies
- Political aspects relating to the use of XR technologies
- Impact of XR on changing user behaviour, hate speech, deepening social differences
How to participate as presenters
All interested presenters are kindly invited to send us a proposal for presentation via email, until August 31st, at erasmusxr.athens2022@gmail.com, including the following information:
- a) the Title of the presentation they want to participate with
- b) the Thematic Area the presentation best fits into
- c) a Short description (~150 words) of their presentation
The Scientific committee will send you a response regarding your proposal at the beginning of September and then compile a preliminary program of the Symposium and inform you about it.
