LuYang puts the human being at the center of an inquiry that uses the cultures of anime, Buddhism, digital technology, video games, Indonesian dance rituals, neuroscience and science fiction to explore the chaos (and magic) of human existence. The resulting artworks are enchanting, fantastical and sometimes grotesque techno-psychedelic videos, installations and computer games that deal with themes such as life, death, reincarnation or even global destruction. At LuYang Vibratory Fieldin the Kunsthalle Basel, LuYang’s first solo exhibition in Switzerland and one of the most extensive presentations of his work in the last ten years, a different cosmos is conjured up in almost every room by the respective video works shown.
