RIXC Riga is preparing for the next annual Arts and Science Festival, which will take place in Riga, Latvia, and virtually from September 20 to 22, 2023.
The festival will start on Wednesday, September 20, 17.00, with the opening of an international exhibition of contemporary media art at the National Library of Latvia (NLL), introduced by Keynote lectures and Artist Talks.
The exhibition will feature 15 artworks created by artists from the European Media Art Residency Platform EMAP/EMARE, as well as other internationally renowned artists and young emerging Latvian artists.
On Thursday, 21 September, 12.00 the festival will continue with a curator-led tour of the Augmented Reality (AR) exhibition SensUs. Augmented Nature-Cultures.
On the second day, at 15.00 the Augmented Europe (AUGE) project will continue with a large-scale Artathon “Crypto, Art and Climate” at the LNB. As part of this event, young creatives are invited to register for both onsite workshops in Riga and online discussions with other participants joining in from Milan, Berlin and Athens.
The Artathon will conclude with the keynote lectures by international experts and discussions with Artathon participants.
In the evening, participants are invited to the opening of the Deep Sensing exhibition and reception at the RIXC Gallery.
Friday, September 22, 11.00-17.00 the International Symposium programme will take place at the Library featuring three thematic panels throughout the day: The first one will feature EMAP/EMARE artists discussing art and artificial intelligence; the second will bring together international immersive artists and climate experts to discuss Metaverse, XR and immersive models of production, exhibition and collaboration; while the third will involve experts from various fields – technology, financial markets, law, art and NFT collecting – talking about the new green digital discourse, NFT art, crypto technologies and its relation to climate change.
The festival will close with sound art performances by Liepaja in the evening programme at the RIXC Gallery.
The exhibition will be open at the National Library of Latvia in Riga until 11 November 2023.
