Open Call | The New Normal: Ghost in the machine
ARTgrID extends an international Open Call to visual artists to submit artworks for participation in a curated exhibition with the theme “THE NEW NORMAL: Ghost in the Machine”, which will take place in December 2023 in Athens, Greece. The physical exhibition will be hosted at the Luminous Eye Art Gallery (2A Mitsaion Street, Acropolis area) on December, and simultaneously online on ARTgrID platform. The exhibition will be curated by Art Curators Paris Kapralos, Teri Paschou, and Vera Katranidou.
A commemorative book catalog will be produced for the exhibition in Greek and English.
Conceptual Framework
“Ghost in the Machine” is an expression used to describe an invisible, non-obvious, or non-apparent impact, problem, or dysfunction that may affect the operation of a system or process. It represents something that is not easily perceptible or recognized but can have significant consequences. The consequences of the pandemic remain multifaceted and uncharted. Psychological and socio-political issues are escalating. The catastrophic effects of climate change, now becoming glaringly apparent, and the threat of dire times, the war in Ukraine with open possibilities of escalating into a global conflict, all impact our already dystopian reality and individual life prospects. New socio-political issues are emerging, exacerbating existing problems and pushing societies into extreme conditions. The New Normal, is a dystopia whose precise causes are not always comprehensible, its trajectory is unpredictable, and its end is indistinguishable. We search for the “ghost in the machine,” often placated, while the need for immediate change is increasing.
